Hello to all Windows installation freaks out there …
My name is Rainer Pollmann, I am a graduate engineer in electrical engineering and have been working as an ITPro since my university days. I started computing with 4 bit CPUs and earned my first money with the first IBM PCs (at that time with DOS).
At university I had (among other things) a PDP11 and a microVAX as a „development environment“, each with punched cards (!) as program memory.
Later (1985) I developed a single-board computer with a Pascal compiler based on the Z64180 chip (CPU, MMU, IO, 8 bit) and used it to build (among other things) machine tool controllers.
A variant of it is still (!) flying around in several weather satellites in space 🙂
Another variant of it co-developed and built the booster housing of the ARIANE 5 rocket 🙂
BTW:
I „got hold“ of the „Red Hat“ at a SUSE event and thus confess that I am also „good with LINUX people“ 🙂
After a longer time as a freelancer and as a technical manager of a small developer company, I have been working for a leading service provider in the industry for more than 20 years, there as a „Principal Technology Specialist“ with focus on troubleshooting and client deployment, and am retired now 🙂
After about 30 years in the business, I’m starting an irregularly updated blog series about
„How do I get an enterprise-grade – AKA vanilla / signature image – Windows 10 client OS onto a fresh box, what tools do I use to do that & how do I troubleshoot it if something goes wrong in the process.“
and
„what do I do when & how if this is also going to happen in the AZURE cloud (cloud first)? „
Including some deep dive troubleshooting tips, but one thing at a time ….
Background:
I know & appreciate Michael Niehaus for many years, he has a very similar history as me.
Unfortunately he left Microsoft and went to Tanium and works now for 2pintsoftware:-(
Here you can find his famous OutOfOffice Hours Blog:

As a little appetizer to the stuff I’ve been doing for > 25 years in a big way:
Check out this video, it shows in fast forward the UPDATE (!) of a Windows 1.0 box (!) to Windows 10 🙂
SHORT Version:
Installing Windows 1.0 to 10 (Time Lapse) on a Virtual Machine – YouTube
If this video looks familiar to you or if you start to smile, you are right here 🙂
I will also try to continue the cool „Case of the Unexplained“ series by Mark Russinovich somehow, of course with using his tools 🙂
I also know Mark personally, he is „Mr. AZURE“ = Chief Technology Officer of Microsoft Azure – for some time now and (unfortunately!) hasn’t done such sessions for a long time 🙁
But his SysInternals tools are still maintained (and supported!) and I use them daily since the release of RegMon & FileMon 🙂
Let me surprise you 🙂
